WCC Technologies Group installs, certifies, and documents Cat6 structured cabling systems for commercial offices, healthcare facilities, schools, warehouses, and government buildings across Southern California.
Cat6 Installation Services for Commercial Facilities
Cat6 structured cabling is the current standard for horizontal runs in commercial buildings β delivering reliable 1 Gbps performance to every workstation, access point, IP camera, and access control reader in your facility. When properly installed and certified, a Cat6 system supports your network infrastructure for 15 years or more.
WCC Technologies Group installs Cat6 cabling systems for new construction projects, tenant improvements, and retrofit upgrades across Southern California. Every installation is designed by our on-staff BICSI RCDD, tested to TIA-568 standards, and delivered with full documentation β including test reports for every run.

Cat6 vs Cat6A: Choosing the Right Cable
Cat6 is the right choice for most horizontal runs in commercial environments. Cat6A is warranted in specific scenarios. Here's how to think through the decision.
| Specification | Cat6 | Cat6A | When It Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max speed | 1 Gbps (up to 100m) | 10 Gbps (up to 100m) | If you're deploying 10G to the desktop or edge switching |
| Bandwidth | 250 MHz | 500 MHz | Higher bandwidth = more headroom for future upgrades |
| PoE support | Yes β up to 60W (Type 3) | Yes β up to 90W (Type 4) | High-watt PoE devices (PTZ cameras, WAPs) benefit from Cat6A |
| Cable diameter | Thinner β easier to route | Thicker β needs more conduit space | Matters in retrofit projects with tight pathways |
| Cost | Lower material cost | ~20β30% higher material cost | Factor into project budget early |
| Best for | Workstations, standard APs, cameras, readers | High-density APs, 10G edge switching, high-watt PoE | β |
| Lifespan | 15β20 years when certified | 15β20 years when certified | Both carry 25-year manufacturer warranty when installed to spec |
WCC recommendation: For most new commercial installations in Southern California, Cat6 remains the right choice for standard workstation and device runs. Cat6A is worth specifying when you have high-density wireless access points, are installing 10G switching to the edge, or have a significant number of high-wattage PoE devices. Our Cat6 Installation Process
Every Cat6 installation follows a consistent process β from initial survey through certification and documentation. No surprises, no shortcuts.
Site Survey & Design
We walk the facility, verify pathways, count outlets, confirm IDF locations, and produce a cable schedule and design before a single foot of cable is pulled.
Pathway & Conduit
We coordinate with GC and facilities teams on conduit, j-hooks, cable trays, and pathways β ensuring clean, compliant routing from IDF to every outlet.
Cable Installation
Cat6 horizontal runs are pulled to spec β no kinks, no tight bends, no exceeding pulling tension limits. Cable management is installed at the IDF simultaneously.
Termination & Labeling
Patch panel and keystone terminations are made at both ends, labeled per ANSI/TIA-606 at the panel and the wall plate. Every port is identified and documented.
Certification Testing
Every run is tested with a Fluke DSX Cable Analyzer to TIA-568 Cat6 standards. Runs that don't pass are remediated before final sign-off.
Documentation Delivery
You receive complete as-built documentation, Fluke test reports for every run, and manufacturer warranty registration β delivered digitally at project close.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat6 Installation
How much does Cat6 installation cost in Southern California?
Cat6 installation pricing depends on the number of drops, building construction type, conduit requirements, IDF buildout scope, and project timeline. A rough range for a standard commercial office installation in Southern California is $150β$300 per drop fully installed and certified β including termination, testing, labeling, and documentation. Projects with complex pathways, concrete construction, or prevailing wage requirements will be higher. WCC provides detailed fixed-price proposals based on a site survey.
How long does a Cat6 installation take?
Timeline depends on the scope. A 50-drop office installation typically takes two to four days for an experienced crew. A 500-drop multi-floor project might take two to four weeks. New construction projects are scheduled around the GC's timeline and typically involve multiple site visits for rough-in and finish phases. WCC provides a project schedule with every proposal so you can plan around the installation.
Do I need Cat6 or Cat6A for my building?
Cat6 supports 1 Gbps at up to 100 meters and is the right choice for most workstation, camera, and access control runs. Cat6A supports 10 Gbps at up to 100 meters and is worth specifying when you're deploying high-density Wi-Fi 6/6E access points, planning 10G switching to the edge, or installing high-wattage PoE devices. WCC will recommend the right cable spec based on your network requirements and device inventory β there's no single right answer for every environment.
What certification testing do you provide?
WCC uses Fluke DSX Cable Analyzers to certify every run to TIA-568 Cat6 standards. Certification testing verifies wire map, length, insertion loss, NEXT, PS-NEXT, ELFEXT, PS-ELFEXT, return loss, and propagation delay. Every run receives a pass/fail result, and any failing runs are remediated before final sign-off. You receive a digital copy of all test reports at project close β which is required for manufacturer warranty registration on qualifying systems.
Can Cat6 support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?
Yes. Cat6 supports PoE up to 60W (IEEE 802.3bt Type 3), which covers the vast majority of PoE devices including standard wireless access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones, and access control readers. Cat6A supports PoE up to 90W (Type 4) and is better suited for high-wattage PoE devices that may run warmer under sustained load. Proper installation practice β including maintaining pair twist rates during termination β is critical for reliable PoE performance regardless of cable category.
