Fiber backbone repair on the Vincent Thomas Bridge
During a scheduled outage, our crew removed the failed air-blown fiber and tube from the eastern span, installed new Sumitomo FutureFLEX duct and splice centers at three bents, and blew in six 24-strand singlemode cables to the port vaults at Ferry Street and the Caltrans lot. Every strand fusion-spliced with a core-alignment splicer and tested before the bridge went back in service.
