IP Security Camera Installation — Designed for Coverage, Not Just Camera Count

Security camera installation that produces useful footage starts with placement design — not a count of how many cameras fit in the budget. Field of view, lens selection, mounting height, lighting conditions, and the specific areas that need coverage determine where cameras go and what hardware is appropriate. A 64-camera system with poor placement produces less useful footage than a 24-camera system designed correctly.

WCC deploys both traditional on-premise VMS platforms (Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon) and cloud-managed systems (Verkada, Rhombus, Avigilon Alta) — with Cat6A PoE cabling to every camera location and the platform configured for recording, retention, and access policy. The right system depends on your facility size, IT model, and whether you want a server on-site or zero on-premise infrastructure.

Security camera installation is one component of a complete physical security system. WCC also installs access control and intrusion alarm systems — and integrates them with your camera platform where the system design calls for unified management.

Have an existing analog system? WCC upgrades and extends analog camera systems — including analog-to-IP hybrid deployments over existing coax infrastructure. When a full IP migration is the right call, we run Cat6A to every camera location as part of the scope.

  • Camera placement design — coverage plan per area, FOV mapped
  • Camera and lens selection matched to environment and lighting
  • Cat6A PoE cabling to every camera — Fluke certified
  • Camera mounting — ceiling, wall, pendant, pole, and outdoor
  • Camera aiming and focus — verified against coverage plan
  • NVR / server installation and storage configuration
  • VMS installation and configuration — recording schedules, retention
  • User accounts and access levels configured
  • Remote access setup — mobile and web client
  • PoE switch coordination — ports and wattage verified
  • System commissioning — all cameras live, recording verified
  • As-built camera schedule — location, field of view, IP address

IP Camera Types for Security Camera Installation — Matched to Coverage Requirements

Camera selection is driven by coverage requirements, not a product catalog. Here are the primary IP camera types WCC specifies and the environments where each performs best.

Fixed Dome

Indoor and outdoor fixed cameras with tamper-resistant dome housing. Discreet profile, vandal-resistant, and available in wide-angle and varifocal lens configurations. The standard choice for lobbies, corridors, and general interior coverage.

Most Common

Multi-Sensor Panoramic

Single camera housing with multiple sensors covering 180° or 360°. Replaces 3–4 fixed cameras at intersections, open floor areas, and parking lots. Higher upfront cost — but lower total installed cost per covered square foot in open environments.

High Coverage Efficiency

PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom)

Motorized cameras that pan, tilt, and zoom under operator control or via auto-tracking. Used for wide-area coverage where a human operator monitors live. PTZ cameras complement fixed cameras — they don't replace them.

Operator-Controlled

Bullet / Box

Directional cameras with visible deterrence profile. Commonly used for long-distance corridor coverage, parking areas, and perimeter lines where a visible camera presence is part of the security objective.

Directional / Perimeter

License Plate Recognition (LPR)

Specialized cameras optimized for capturing license plate numbers at vehicle entry/exit points. LPR cameras require specific mounting angles and distances — placement design is critical for read accuracy.

Vehicle Entry / Exit

Outdoor / Environmental

IP66/67-rated cameras for exterior mounting — parking lots, building perimeters, loading docks, and outdoor facilities. Specified with wide dynamic range (WDR) for scenes with significant contrast between sunlit and shaded areas.

Exterior / Weather-Rated

VMS Selection for Security Camera Installation — On-Premise and Cloud

The platform behind the cameras manages storage, retrieval, live monitoring, and analytics. That platform may be a traditional on-premise VMS, a cloud-managed system with edge storage, or a hybrid of both. Platform selection matters as much as camera hardware.

Campus perimeter, building entries, parking lots, and interior common areas — designed to comply with school safety requirements and support SRO monitoring workflows. Multi-building campus systems with centralized VMS.

Government Facilities

Public-facing facility coverage, secure area monitoring, and perimeter cameras for civic buildings, courthouses, and public works facilities — with the documentation and compliance requirements public projects demand.

Warehouse & Distribution

High-bay warehouse coverage for dock doors, staging areas, receiving, and inventory aisles — with wide-angle and multi-sensor cameras covering large floor areas efficiently, and outdoor perimeter cameras for yard and vehicle access.

Retail & Multi-Site

Loss prevention coverage, point-of-sale monitoring, and parking lot cameras — deployed across multiple locations with cloud VMS or centralized NVR giving corporate security teams visibility across the full portfolio.

Our Security Camera Installation Process

Camera placement is a design decision — not a field judgment call on installation day. Every WCC security camera installation starts with a coverage plan and ends with a commissioned system verified against it.

01

Site Walk & Coverage Design

We walk the facility and map coverage requirements area by area — entry points, parking, interior zones, and specific locations requiring monitored coverage. Camera placement, mounting height, lens selection, and field of view documented before installation begins.

02

Camera & VMS Selection

Camera hardware and VMS platform recommended based on coverage plan, lighting conditions, storage requirements, compliance considerations, and integration with existing access control or alarm systems.

03

Cabling Infrastructure

Cat6A PoE cabling pulled and Fluke-certified to every camera location. Proper conduit where required. PoE switch ports and wattage budgets verified against camera models before security camera installation begins.

04

Camera Mounting & Aiming

Cameras mounted at designed locations and aimed to the planned field of view. Every camera position verified against the coverage plan before the installer leaves the site.

05

VMS Configuration

NVR or server installed, cameras added to VMS, recording schedules and retention policies configured, motion detection zones set, user accounts and access levels established, and remote access configured for mobile and web clients.

06

Commissioning & Handoff

All cameras verified live and recording. Footage reviewed to confirm field of view matches design. As-built camera schedule — location, IP address, channel, FOV — delivered with system credentials and user training at handoff.

Why Organizations Choose WCC for Security Camera Installation

Security cameras that produce useful footage when you need it are designed before they're installed. Here's what separates a WCC security camera installation from a hardware installation.

Coverage Plan Before Hardware

WCC designs the coverage plan before specifying camera hardware. Camera placement, mounting height, lens selection, and field of view are documented from the site walk — camera count follows the coverage requirement, not the other way around.

Cameras + Cabling + Network

WCC installs the Cat6A PoE cabling and the PoE switching infrastructure alongside the camera system. PoE budgets are verified before security camera installation — not discovered as a problem when cameras won't power.

VMS Configuration Included

Every security camera installation includes VMS setup — recording schedules, retention policies, user accounts, and remote access. We don't hand off a system with cameras online and VMS software unconfigured.

Physical Security Integration

WCC installs cameras alongside access control and intrusion alarm systems — enabling camera-to-door integration, alarm-triggered recording, and unified monitoring from a single platform where the system design calls for it.

20+ Years of Experience

Enterprise campuses, hospital networks, school districts, government facilities, warehouses — WCC has provided security camera installation across every major vertical in Southern California for over 20 years.

Ongoing Support Available

Security Camera Installation — Frequently Asked Questions

How many security cameras does my facility need?

Camera count is determined by coverage requirements, not square footage. The number of cameras needed depends on which areas require monitored coverage, what field of view each camera covers at the required mounting height, and what resolution is needed to identify individuals at the required distance. WCC walks your facility and produces a coverage plan that documents camera placement and field of view before specifying hardware — camera count is an output of that process, not an input.

What is the difference between an NVR and a VMS?

An NVR (Network Video Recorder) is a dedicated hardware appliance that records and stores IP camera footage — typically a closed system tied to a specific camera brand. A VMS (Video Management System) is software-based and supports cameras from multiple manufacturers, advanced analytics, access control integration, and enterprise management features. For small deployments with a single camera brand, an NVR is often sufficient. For larger systems, multi-site deployments, or environments requiring access control integration and analytics, a VMS platform like Milestone or Genetec is the right choice for your security camera installation.

How long is security camera footage retained?

Most commercial security camera installations configure 30 days of continuous recording as a baseline. Healthcare and financial environments often require 90 days or longer. Schools and government facilities may have specific retention requirements under state law. WCC sizes storage based on your camera count, resolution settings, and retention requirements — not a generic estimate.

Can WCC add cameras to our existing system?

Yes. WCC adds cameras to existing Milestone, Genetec, Axis Camera Station, Avigilon, and other VMS platforms — running new cabling, mounting cameras, and integrating them into the existing system without replacing the management platform. If your existing NVR or VMS is reaching capacity, WCC can assess whether the current platform supports expansion or whether a migration to a more scalable platform is appropriate before the security camera installation begins.

Do you provide security camera installation in Los Angeles?

Yes. WCC provides security camera installation across Los Angeles County — serving corporate campuses, healthcare facilities, school districts, government buildings, retail locations, and distribution centers in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Pasadena, Burbank, El Segundo, Torrance, and the San Fernando Valley. We coordinate directly with facilities managers and IT teams on both new construction and existing facility projects throughout LA County.

Do you provide security camera installation in the Inland Empire?

Yes. WCC provides security camera installation across the Inland Empire — serving businesses, healthcare organizations, school districts, government facilities, and distribution centers in Chino, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Fontana, Redlands, Riverside, Corona, Murrieta, and Temecula. Our headquarters is in Chino, CA — no travel fees for security camera installation projects anywhere in the Inland Empire.
