What is AI Video Analytics?

AI video analytics uses machine learning running on AI security cameras or in the cloud to detect, classify, and search what cameras see — people, vehicles, license plates, behaviors, and counts — without an operator watching the feed. WCC deploys AI-enabled cameras from Verkada, Avigilon Alta, and Rhombus across Southern California, configures the intelligent video surveillance analytics for your sites, and trains your team on the search tools.

  • Search hours of footage in seconds by description
  • License plate recognition with watch lists
  • Person and vehicle attribute filters
  • Occupancy, dwell time, and people counting
  • Behavior and intrusion zone alerts
  • No on-prem servers required (cloud-managed)

FAQ

AI Video Analytics — Frequently Asked Questions

The questions IT directors and security managers ask before approving an AI camera project for their Southern California facility.

Do AI cameras require a separate server or VMS?
No. Verkada, Avigilon Alta, and Rhombus are cloud-managed platforms with AI processing on the camera (Verkada, Rhombus) or in the cloud (Avigilon Alta). There are no on-prem NVR servers, no Windows machines to maintain, and no annual VMS license renewals. You manage everything from a web browser.
How accurate is license plate recognition?
Real-world LPR accuracy on properly-aimed cameras typically runs 90-95% on California plates in good lighting, with degradation at night, in rain, on dirty plates, or on vehicles moving above 35 mph. WCC's site assessment specifies camera angles, focal lengths, and supplemental lighting where needed to keep your accuracy in the production range.
What's the difference between Verkada, Avigilon Alta, and Rhombus AI?
Verkada runs AI on the camera itself with hybrid local-and-cloud storage, very strong search, and a unified platform that includes access control. Avigilon Alta has industry-leading appearance search and forensic investigation tools, with Motorola Solutions ecosystem integration. Rhombus is a strong mid-market cloud platform with sensors and an open API for custom workflows. We deploy all three and the right answer depends on your site, use cases, and budget.
Will my existing cameras work with AI analytics?
Usually no — AI analytics require AI-capable cameras. Older IP cameras can sometimes integrate as third-party feeds (especially with Avigilon Alta), but the AI features come from the platform's native cameras. We document any salvageable hardware during the site assessment so you understand the actual replacement scope.
How long does AI camera deployment take?
Small sites (10-30 cameras) typically deploy in 1-2 weeks from PO. Mid-size sites (30-100 cameras) run 3-6 weeks depending on cabling scope. Multi-site enterprise rollouts run 8-16 weeks with a phased schedule. Cloud platforms cut configuration time roughly in half versus traditional VMS deployments.
What about data privacy and retention for AI video?
All three platforms support configurable retention windows, role-based access controls, audit logging of every search, and SAML/SSO integration. For healthcare, we configure HIPAA-aware retention. For K-12, FERPA-aware access policies. Video data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Customers retain ownership of their footage; the platform vendors cannot access it without explicit grant.
Can WCC monitor our AI cameras 24/7?
Yes. Our managed camera monitoring service adds 24/7/365 alarm verification, dispatch coordination, and weekly health reporting on top of any of the three platforms. This converts AI camera alerts from "your team checks them later" to "trained operators respond now."
Does WCC serve our area in Southern California?
WCC serves Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, and Ventura counties from our Chino headquarters and Solana Beach branch. AI camera deployments and ongoing support are available across all six counties. Call 909-364-9906 to discuss your site.
