Managed Desktop as a Service
cloud desktops without the platform burden.
Managed Desktop as a Service for SoCal businesses — Windows 365 Cloud PCs, Azure Virtual Desktop pools, golden image management, Entra ID identity, conditional access, FSLogix profile management, and 24/7 helpdesk support. The cloud handles the desktop infrastructure. WCC handles the platform. Your users get a working Windows experience from any device since 2003.
Full Windows desktops running in the cloud, accessed from any device
DaaS delivers a full Windows desktop running in Azure or another cloud, accessed by the user from any endpoint — laptop, tablet, phone, thin client, or browser. The desktop, the profile, the installed applications, and the data all live in the cloud. The user device just renders the screen. The model replaces the traditional setup where every employee needed a powerful local laptop that had to be procured, imaged, deployed, patched, and refreshed on its own schedule.
For SoCal mid-market businesses, the DaaS pitch lands strongest in four scenarios. Remote and hybrid workforce: anywhere-access by default with the security boundary inside Azure instead of on dozens of laptops. Compliance-regulated environments: HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, and NIST 800-171 controls are dramatically easier to scope and evidence when data never leaves the cloud. Rapid headcount changes: adding 30 users next week is a licensing change instead of a procurement project. Mergers and acquisitions: an acquired company can be folded into the parent's desktop standard in weeks rather than the months a hardware refresh would take. The trade-off is monthly OpEx instead of CapEx and a real dependency on internet connectivity at the user's location.
This page covers WCC's managed DaaS practice. For the broader engagement, see managed services. For the hardware procurement side, see Hardware as a Service. To scope a quote, request a free IT consultation.
Traditional VDI vs DIY Cloud DaaS vs WCC Managed DaaS
Every business looking at virtual desktops considers some version of these three paths. The trade-offs aren't always obvious until the platform is already deployed.
Traditional VDI
- Substantial capital infrastructure required
- Servers, storage, hypervisor, networking
- Capital-heavy upfront cost
- Ongoing engineering burden to operate
- Anywhere-access requires extra gateway work
- Scaling means buying more hardware
DIY Windows 365 / AVD
- No infrastructure to buy
- Cloud OpEx pricing
- Your IT team owns image management
- Your IT team owns identity and access
- Your IT team owns monitoring and capacity
- Works if you have the engineering bench
Managed Desktop as a Service
- Windows 365 + Azure Virtual Desktop, both managed
- Golden image authorship + updates by WCC
- Identity + conditional access by WCC
- Performance monitoring and capacity tuning
- 24/7 helpdesk for user-facing issues
- Single bundled invoice, single accountable team
Why choose WCC for managed DaaS in Southern California
DaaS done well looks easy from the outside. The platform engineering is real — image management, identity, profile, performance, and the operational layer underneath all need to actually work. WCC owns both the platform and the operations.
Founded in SoCal
22+ years operating across LA, Orange, Inland Empire, San Diego, and Ventura counties — including the cloud transition era from on-prem VDI to Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop.
Windows 365 + AVD + Citrix
Real depth across all three major platforms. Most engagements use Windows 365 for executives and persistent desktops + AVD multi-session for the general workforce. Citrix DaaS supported for legacy bridge scenarios.
CSLB Licensed
California Contractors State License Board #819788. C-7, C-10, and C-28 classifications. The network and infrastructure work underneath good DaaS is real and requires real licensing.
One contract, one accountable team
DaaS works best bundled with broader managed services — the helpdesk supporting the user is the same team that operates the platform. Single vendor, single SLA, single invoice.
The six layers every Desktop as a Service program addresses
Engagements scope to your user count, role mix, application portfolio, and compliance environment. These are the six functional areas every WCC managed DaaS engagement covers.
Windows 365 Cloud PCs
Per-user Windows 11 Cloud PCs from Microsoft. Fixed monthly price per user. Simplest licensing, easiest budget. Best fit for executives, persistent-desktop users, and any role that needs a dedicated cloud workstation.
Azure Virtual Desktop
Consumption-based session host pools in Azure. Multi-session Windows for high-density workforces — multiple users sharing a single VM at meaningful cost savings. Best fit for general knowledge-worker populations and call center / shared-shift environments.
Citrix DaaS
Citrix DaaS supported for businesses with existing Citrix investment, complex application delivery requirements, or specific GPU workloads. Generally a bridge to Windows 365 or AVD over time, but valuable where the existing platform is too embedded to swap.
Golden Image & App Delivery
Golden image authorship for each desktop type. Application packaging through MSIX or MSI. Microsoft 365 Apps deployment. Custom line-of-business app delivery. Image updates tested in staging pools, deployed on a controlled schedule, rollback if user-impacting issues arise.
Entra ID & Conditional Access
Identity infrastructure for the cloud desktop — Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), MFA enforcement, conditional access policies (location, device, risk-based), and the deemed-export tracking when ITAR or CUI environments are in scope.
Profile, Performance & Support
FSLogix profile container management. OneDrive for known-folder redirect. Performance monitoring (login times, session quality, pool utilization, capacity planning). 24/7 helpdesk through the WCC support team for user-facing issues.
DaaS across SoCal mid-market verticals
DaaS lands strongest in six verticals because of their workforce profile, compliance posture, or growth dynamics.
Professional Services
Law firms, accounting firms, consulting firms — document-heavy work, persistent desktops, compliance overlays. Windows 365 fits the executive-and-partner population; AVD multi-session fits the general staff. See law firm managed IT and accounting firm managed IT.
Healthcare & Medical Practices
HIPAA-regulated environments where PHI handling on physical laptops creates real compliance exposure. DaaS keeps the PHI inside Azure with controls auditors can actually evidence. See medical practice managed IT.
Financial Services
Wealth management, investment advisors, accounting, and payroll — compliance overlays, hybrid work, and document security all favor the cloud desktop model. See financial services managed IT.
Manufacturing & Industrial
Office staff on DaaS, shop floor on traditional endpoints. Lets the manufacturing IT team standardize office desktop management without disrupting OT environments. See manufacturing managed IT.
PE-Backed & M&A-Active
Acquired companies can be folded into the parent's desktop standard in weeks. License changes instead of hardware refreshes. Critical when integration timelines are tight and headcount changes are constant.
Remote-First & Hybrid Workforce
Distributed teams where the security boundary needs to live inside Azure rather than on dozens of laptops scattered across SoCal and beyond. BYOD-friendly, anywhere-access by default, conditional access enforced at the cloud edge.
DaaS — common questions
Desktop as a Service (DaaS) delivers a full Windows desktop running in the cloud — accessed by the user from any device (laptop, tablet, phone, thin client) over the internet. The desktop, the user's profile, the installed applications, and the data all live in Azure (or another cloud). The user device just renders the screen. DaaS replaces the traditional model where every employee needed a powerful local laptop that had to be procured, imaged, deployed, patched, and refreshed. With DaaS, the heavy lifting moves to the cloud — predictable monthly cost, anywhere access, simpler endpoint management, and substantially better security posture for compliance-regulated environments.
Windows 365 is a per-user fixed-price Cloud PC — each employee gets a dedicated Windows 11 cloud desktop billed at a flat monthly rate (around $30 to $160 per user per month depending on spec). Simple to license, simple to deploy, simple to budget. Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is a consumption-based platform where you build session host pools and pay for Azure compute and storage by the hour. AVD supports multi-session Windows (multiple users sharing a single virtual machine), which can be substantially cheaper for high-density workforces. AVD is more powerful and flexible but requires meaningful Azure engineering. Most engagements use both — Windows 365 for executives and persistent-desktop users, AVD multi-session for the general workforce.
Traditional VDI (on-prem Citrix or VMware Horizon) requires substantial capital infrastructure — servers, storage, networking, hypervisor licensing — and dedicated engineering to operate. The upfront capital is large and the operational burden is ongoing. DaaS eliminates the infrastructure problem. The cloud provider owns the servers, storage, and network. WCC manages the platform configuration, identity, images, and user experience. Result: faster deployment (weeks instead of months), predictable OpEx instead of CapEx surprises, anywhere-access by default, easier scaling (add 50 users tomorrow), and substantially lower operational burden. Traditional VDI still has niches (very high density, specific GPU workloads, air-gap requirements) but for most mid-market businesses, DaaS is the better economic answer.
Windows 365 Cloud PCs run $30 to $160 per user per month depending on spec (typical mid-tier business config: 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage runs around $50 per user). Azure Virtual Desktop is consumption-based — typical multi-session general workforce comes in around $25 to $50 per user per month including compute, storage, and Microsoft licensing. WCC management fees run $15 to $35 per user per month bundled with managed services. All-in DaaS for a typical knowledge-worker business: $80 to $130 per user per month covering the cloud desktop, identity, conditional access, profile management, monitoring, and support.
Yes — and often better than physical desktops. Because the data never leaves the cloud, DaaS environments are dramatically easier to scope for HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, and NIST 800-171. Common patterns: HIPAA-regulated healthcare uses Windows 365 + conditional access + FSLogix profiles to keep PHI inside Azure; PCI DSS merchants put cardholder-data-touching workflows behind AVD session hosts; defense contractors use GCC High AVD for CUI handling. The compliance angle is one of the strongest cases for DaaS.
WCC operates DaaS environments as a managed service — golden image authorship and updates, application packaging and delivery, FSLogix profile management, Entra ID identity and conditional access policies, performance monitoring (login times, session quality, pool utilization), capacity planning, security patching, and 24/7 helpdesk support for user-facing issues. The customer's IT team can focus on business systems while WCC handles the platform. Image updates are tested in staging pools, deployed to production on a controlled schedule, and rolled back if user-impacting issues arise. Pool capacity is right-sized monthly to balance cost and performance.
